No Roger, we are looking into Broadgate through the bridge, with the National Provincial on the right. In the near-distance you can see the work progressing on the new Owen Owen building. To the left of Owen Owen you can still see right through to a factory chimney in the distance, which might possibly be Courtaulds, so work on the Leofric had probably not yet begun.

Hertford St was closed to traffic on January 1st 1969, prior to that to get across at this point you needed to use the subway. It had 2 entrances on each side, one via steps at the base of Broadgate House where the mosaic currently resides and a looping slope outside the small Devlins newsagents. On the other side there was a long slope that came out almost where Starbucks is now and the other set of steps were in what is/was a hairdressers shop.
Its quite possible the stairways still exist on both sides but when the bank was being built around late 1969/early 1970 the ground was excavated , presumably to build vaults and the subway tunnel could be seen with its roof removed, maybe they blocked the ends and used some of it as ready made storage areas?

It would be nice if the area above the bank could revert to its original use, then known as The Bridge restaurant. Perhaps as this is supposed to be the city's new restaurant quarter then is it possible they could attract a quality chain to open a branch in there.

You are right Steve I should have remembered that Hertford St slopes away from Broadgate and correct Owen Owen in background

It is Hertford Street and the bus is headed towards Warwick Road bound for Earlsdon.
