The way the paint has come off around the front blind displays calls to mind the bare aluminium around those on the 60 seater 'deckers in the late prewar period. I understand that this was to help Inspectors identify the 60 seaters from a distance.

Here's one of the 60 seater Wartime Buses (Bus 261) that you refer to above Ken, showing the aluminium strip around its front destination boxes ! (239's front destination boxes sure do now share the same similarity to Bus 261 and as you know, it to is also a 60 seater !!!lol).

I have it on good authority that 239 is now being worked on to do a limited restoration to bring it back to a roadworthy condition.

This is good news - looks as if 239 has to keep earning for a while longer. Shame a deal for Roger to restore couldn't have been sorted but a partial restoration has to be better than complete neglect....
